Plantar warts, also known as verruca are caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). Warts are a small cauliflower-shaped skin lesion characterised by black dots, which sometimes cause discomfort when standing, walking or running.
Treatments for plantar warts by your podiatrist may include pairing back the skin (i.e. debridement), the use of liquid nitrogen to freeze the lesion(s) or strong acids to chemically cauterise. This usually involves a few sessions with your Podiatrist, but is often far more effective than over-the-counter treatments. You may also wish to consider speaking to your GP to assist boosting the immune system with prescription medications.
